How this is counted
No cookie is set and nothing is written to your device. A visitor is a SHA-256 of a private salt, the date, your IP and your browser string — it rotates every day and cannot be walked back to a person. Bots are dropped by user agent. It is not exact; it is honest about not being exact.
The country is whatever the CDN put on the request before the page was built, and nothing finer than a country is ever stored — no city, no coordinates, no address kept anywhere. Requests that arrived without a country are listed as not known rather than dropped.
The flags are Twemoji, used under CC-BY 4.0 and unmodified — Windows has no flag glyphs of its own, so they are carried by a font rather than by whatever the reader’s system happens to have.
